Guidelines for textbook submissions

Content can be:

  • Created by you. Original, personally crafted contributions are greatly valued by peers.
  • Culled by you directly from another identified source who is willing to have his or her oral or written contributions used in this manner.

    • Provide a brief description or bio of the source.
    • Include an e-mail address or telephone number that can be used to verify the source and the validity of the submission.
  • Abstracted by you from materials created by othersAbstracts should comply with the Fair Use doctrine or be accompanied by permission from the original creator. In all cases, give credit (author, title and publisher of original source) for submitted material that has been aggregated from other sources. An e-mail address or telephone number that can be used to verify the source should also be provided.

    • When permission for use has not been obtained from an original source, verbatim quotations from their materials should be limited to an aggregate total of less than 100 words. Here too, credit should be provided (author, title and publisher of original source).
  • Your personal interpretations of others’ writings, research or observations. Your conclusions may be summarized or paraphrased from the observations and conclusions of a recognized figure (e.g. historian, philosopher, “thinker,” pundit, etc.). Here, too, credit should be given.
  • Formatted as Tip Lists  Tip Lists are compilations of short, to-the-point tips, recommendations, or ideas that could be helpful to entrepreneurs or established business owners. Ideally, they are based on accomplished venturers' learning and experience. The are simple, old-fashioned, to-the-point itemizations of advice, insights, counsel, suggestions and admonitions from people who've "walked the walk.” Click here for more information on Tip Lists.

Suggestions for contributors:
  • Focus each contribution on only one principal topic, issue, event, or personage.
  • Limit your contributions to 500 to 2500 words. TipLists focus on only one principal topic. These lists should run no more than 1,000 words, although short lists are usually the best.
  • Provide nitty-gritty know-how in a condensed format that is designed to stimulate thinking and provide actionable ideas.
  • Avoid using adjectives that are not essential.
  • Limit verbatim quotations of others’ materials to an aggregate total of less than 100 words.
  • Provide appropriate credit (author, title and publisher of original source) if your submission contains observations, conclusions, or historical narratives drawn from a review of other source materials.
  • Principal content may be an original mini-biography of an accomplished, recognized figure, living or dead. Click here for “prompts’ that can be useful in creating such a biography.
  • The observations and conclusions of an entrepreneur, innovator, leader/change-maker, historian, philosopher or “thinker” may constitute the principal content of a submission, if credit is given to the source.
  • There are specific guidelines for the creation of TipLists and for suggested Tip List titles. Click here to find out more.
  • Embellishyour contribution, where appropriate, with relevant quotes, and/or significant facts or statistics (historical or contemporary).
  • Include your own observations (facts, examples, stories, etc.) culled from your personal experience or knowledge.
  • Include your name, school, and URL or web address so that you can be appropriately recognized and  contacted by readers.
